A native of Detroit, Emily Smith began her directing career at Earlham College where she mounted productions such as Michael Frayn’s Here and The Bald Soprano by Eugene Ionesco. Acting was also a focus of hers during this time, with roles including the title role in August Strindberg’s Miss Julie. She has worked at Light Opera Oklahoma and the Illinois Shakespeare Festival in various positions. In the four years Ms. Smith lived in Juneau, she worked with many local companies including Perseverance Theatre, Opera to Go, Juneau Lyric Opera, and Juneau Douglas Little Theatre. Her Juneau directing credits include the premiere of Bo Anderson’s Puppet Play as well as Melancholy Play by Sarah Ruhl. Since leaving town, Ms. Smith completed her MA in Performance and Creative Research at Roehampton University in London. |
